Heritage Flight Academy is proud to support the men and women who have served and are currently serving our country.

Several of our current staff and flight instructors are also former service members. We understand the distinctive needs of providing expert flight instruction for our prior military service members using VA benefits. We are well versed in assisting veterans with dealing with all the documents and training course requirements.

Post 9/11 GI Bill
As of October 1, 2011, veterans eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) are able to use $10,000 per academic year for flight training. An academic year lasts from August 1 to July 31. All flight training except for Private Pilot training is covered under the Post/911 GI Bill. The following flight training programs are covered by the Post/911 GI Bill, (Chapter 33):

  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Certificate
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane, (CFIA)
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument, (CFII)
  • Multi Engine Rating
  • Multi Engine Instructor
  • Airline Transport Pilot – (ATP)
  • Montgomery GI Bill

Heritage Flight Academy continues to offer training under the Montgomery GI Bill, (Chapter 30) also known as MGIB. The VA does not pay for the private pilot certificate using the Montgomery GI Bill. However, ratings and/or certificates following private pilot certification are partially funded by the VA; the VA pays 60%, and the student pays 40%.* The following flight training programs are covered by the Montgomery GI Bill, (Chapter 30):  

  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Certificate
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane, (CFIA)
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument, (CFII)
  • Multi Engine Rating
  • Multi Engine Instructor
  • Airline Transport Pilot – (ATP)

The Veterans Administration does not pay for Pilot Examiner check ride fees (Certification Fee). This is paid out of pocket.

98% of pilots that receive their CFI/CFII training with Heritage Flight Academy start their career in aviation by working as flight instructors at our academy.

Making Application for Benefits
For Veterans using education benefits for the first time please verify your benefits by contacting your local Veteran’s Administration office at 631-471-3550.

Heritage Flight Academy will certify your VA Enrollment. We send everything to the VA for their final approval of benefits. They will send an award letter stating that your application and enrollment have been approved.
